Dear Sarah, Lesley and Lisa – this is to let you know that we have now opened the application/selection process for the 2012 intake of the above scholarship, so can I ask you to promote this thro’ your networks so that as many eligible colleagues as possible are aware of these bursaries.

Full details are on our website, including the application form. I’m attaching a copy of the selection criteria for information as you may wish to pass this on to colleagues. Do please come back to me if I can help further. Best wishes and many thanks for your help.

I wanted to make you aware of SCAMPs, which is an initiative led by the Boston Children's Hospital and now involving Great Ormond Street Hospital (where, not surprisingly, I am involved with the programme). If you hadn't heard of it before, you can click on http://www.childrenshospital.org/clinicalservices/Site457/mainpageS457P76sublevel142.html for a background article on the subject, which was recently published by the Boston Children's Hospital.

A SCAMP is, then, a quality improvement initiative that aims to optimise care delivery for children iteratively over time. Each SCAMP outlines a sound, standardised care pathway for a diverse child population with a particular diagnosis or condition. It is accompanied by a systematic and robust, but also selective data collection process, allowing measurable differences in outcomes to emerge based on clinical heterogeneity. One distinguishing feature of the SCAMPs process is active invitation and capturing of knowledge-based clinician deviations from the standard management plans, which are perceived to be a rich source of information and innovation. Based upon periodic review of the collected data and deviations, a SCAMP undergoes iterative and progressive modification of its care-delivery algorithm. The development of a SCAMP is carried out by a multi-disciplinary group of physician and nursing experts. I am trying to get you a copy of all the relevant background data (subject to the Boston Children's Hospital letting me show you them), which I have seen, showing the cost savings that can be realised over less than a year. I found the numbers simply staggering.

Whilst the article describes SCAMPs in the context of cardiovascular pathways but I am aware that it has already been widened to cover other paediatric disciplines. I am particularly interested in investigating whether, in the context of Jason Witt's approach towards managing clinical data on CF patients here at QA, we couldn't quickly develop a SCAMP in respect of CF.

Once I hear back on showing you the data, I will try to find some time to discuss it with you.

Kind regards

Moya Sutton Executive Nurse Alder Hey Childrens NHS Foundation Trust

Dear Angela

I hope this email finds you well, and I am looking forward immensely to Hosting the ACCN in June. I wondered if you would be interested in a couple of suggestions or perhaps canvas the ACCN.

Edge Hill University celebrate 125 years this year, and have offered as part of that celebration to Host a dinner for members of the ACCN the night before. I have said that I would ask, and I have said that I am sure at some point that we would really welcome as a ACCN to have some conversations with our HEI providers in terms of their vision for the future, it just so happens that Edge Hill train the majority of our student nurses, and they want to engage with the ACCN in terms of modeling the Paediatric nurse for the future.

I look forward to hearing to hearing your thoughts.

Kind Regards
Moya Sutton

ACCN/Britains Nurses

Message:
I am the editor of a new resource for nurses called Britain's Nurses. The idea is based on nurses helping nurses, with nurses over the UK sharing information, best practice ideas, answering and asking questions with their peers and reviewing and recommending products and services. Our ethos is that someone out there knows exactly what to do.We hope that Britain's Nurses will become a focal point for all nurses throughout the country and will help act as a career guide for student nurses, people considering nursing as a career and also nurses moving from speciality to speciality. With this in mind I am contacting some of the best nurse associations to make sure I have got my facts straight. I would like to talk to someone from within the ACCN to understand more about what you do and to see how we can best represent the ACCN within Britain's Nurses ( for example we are looking for 'Day in the Life' nurses to interview, which we hope will prompt some nurses or potential nurses to consider a career in childrens' nursing and contact the association when they see what chief childrens nurses do). Due to the seniority of your membership it would be good to speak to you about guidance for other areas of Britain's Nurses too.I would be grateful if you could give me a call so we can have a chat and hopefully arrange to meet. I will be at the RCN Congress in April if we don't get to meet beforehand.I will look forward to hearing from you.My mobile number is 07792 039265 or email at matthew@britainsnurses.co.ukThank you
